    Early Head Start

    Indiana County Head Start offers a unique program that provides weekly home visits to families with pregnant women or children aged birth to 3. The Early Head Start (EHS) program offers comprehensive child development and family support services to ensure that infants and toddlers reach their maximum potential. EHS provides a smooth pathway for families to achieve success.

    At the age of 3, children in the EHS program may transition to center-based Head Start services or another early childhood education program. The program is funded by federal dollars.

    Head Start

    Indiana County Head Start, is an early childhood education program that prioritizes the school readiness of eligible children aged three to five. Funded at both the federal and state levels, it provides comprehensive family involvement, health and nutrition, education, and social services support. With the goal of enhancing children's cognitive and social-emotional development, Head Start emphasizes literacy, while also supporting children's overall well-being, including providing vision, hearing, and lead screenings, as well as daily nutritious meals.

    At Head Start locations throughout Indiana County, transportation services are available. Dental, medical, immunization, and mental health referral services are also offered. Transportation services are provided to make attending the program easier for families.

    Pre-K Counts

    Indiana County Head Start's Pre-K Counts program is a state-funded early childhood education program offering full-day pre-kindergarten services to children aged three to five years. The program (located in Homer City) is available to families who meet or exceed the Head Start income guidelines, which is up to 300% of the poverty income level.

    In addition to providing nutritious breakfast and lunch options, children also receive on-site vision and hearing screenings. The program also offers dental, medical, immunization, and mental health referral services.

    The curriculum is focused on school readiness and social-emotional development to ensure children are prepared for their educational journey. Moreover, transportation services are provided to make attending the program easier for families.
